Devon police officer Sarah Cohen charged with perverting the course of justice during police inquiry into sexual assaults | Exeter Express and Echo

PC Sarah Cohen, a Devon and Cornwall Police officer from Lifton, Devon, was charged with perverting the course of justice (and related misconduct) linked to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl by her then-boyfriend, James Reading, an Air Training Corps (ATC) sergeant.

In November 2011, James Reading sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl during an unofficial sleepover/party at an Air Training Corps hut in Devon (he was drunk at the time).

Reading was later convicted and jailed for the assault.

Cohen (who was Reading’s girlfriend and also a senior officer in the same ATC squadron — Flight Lieutenant) was accused of trying to discourage the victim’s parents from reporting the incident to police.

The victim’s father claimed Cohen visited their home late at night, spent about 90 minutes talking to them, and:
Warned that the daughter would have to relive the ordeal in court. Offered to arrange treatment for Reading and ensure he never worked with children again if they didn’t report it.

Said she was wearing “three hats” (ATC boss, girlfriend, police officer) with conflicting advice.

She was also accused of intervening when Reading later became suicidal/threatening (armed with a knife, crashed his car on Dartmoor, etc.).

In 2016 -
A police officer has been sacked after leaving work to deal with an incident involving her paedophile fiance to prevent him being arrested.

A misconduct panel found that Devon and Cornwall Police officer Sarah Cohen had "self-deployed" to the incident without informing the control room.

PC Cohen took possession of her fiance's property, including a knife, the panel said.

The hearing ruled her behaviour amounted to gross misconduct.

PC Cohen had been on duty at Launceston police station in Cornwall when her fiance, James Reading, rang her in the early hours in November 2011...

Ms Cohen, 38, was acquitted at Exeter Crown Court last year of trying to stop a victim's parents from reporting a sexual assault on a child.

She was found not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
